Recipe of Modak

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 3/4 cup jaggery
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • A pinch of nutmeg powder
  • 1/2 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp ghee
  • A pinch of salt

Directions

  • Add grated coconut, jaggery, spices and salt to heated ghee in a pan. Cook on a slow flame till the mix combines.
  • Prepare a soft dough of rice flour using water and ghee.
  • Roll the dough to form a round disk. Put a small amount of the coconut-jaggery mixture in the center of the disk and wrap the disk around it. Seal it properly using water at the edges.
  • Steam the modaks for about 10 minutes or till the covering becomes translucent, then serve hot.
